Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala headlines a strong Kenya relays team unveiled by Athletics Kenya (AK) following a three-day trial held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata, Nairobi.
The team will compete at the World Athletics Relays scheduled for May 2–3 in Gaborone, Botswana, and the Africa Senior Championships set for May 12–17 at the University of Ghana Sports Complex in Accra, both in 2026.
After the April 9–11 trials at Ulinzi, Omanyala is the star athlete leading Ronald Kiprono Koech, Mark Otieno Odhiambo, and Moses Wasike Onyango in the 4x100m and mixed events for the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone.
Joining them in the short relay pool are Elkana Kiprotich Sabila, Dennis Wangui Mwai, Meshack Kitsubuli Babu, Samuel Waweru Chege, and Steve Odhiambo Onyango, while the women’s sprint team is anchored by Millicent Ndoro, Diana Lilian Awako Aoko, and Eunice Kadogo Murandafu.
The men’s 4x400m contingent is equally deep, headlined by Kelvin Kiprotich Tonui, Dennis Masika Mulongo, George Mutinda Mutuku, and Kevin Kipkorir, with additional support from Danson Kibet, Erick Kimathi, Brian Onyari Tinega, Kipkorir Rotich, Erastus Mbaluka Musilu, and Allan Kipyego.
On the women’s side, the quarter-mile specialists include Mercy Chebet, Hellen Syombua Kalii, Maureen Nanjala Wafula, and Anne Mbatha Nzula, joined by Margaret Naserian Tajeu, Mercy Adongo Oketch, and Gladys Muthoni Ngure.
Purity Chepkoech Joy and Lanoline Owino Aoko round out the women’s roster, ensuring strong options for both the single-gender and mixed 4x400m relay categories.
The Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Ghana will have Millicent Ndoro and Ronald Kiprono Koech leading the 100m charge, while Rukia Nusra headlines the hurdles with a time of 13.13 in the 100m hurdles.
Diana Aoko and Eunice Kadogo have also been confirmed for the women’s 100m, with Mark Otieno Odhiambo and Moses Onyango completing the men’s 100m lineup.
In the 200m, Dennis Wangui Mwai and Diana Aoko secured their spots alongside Gladys Muthoni Ngure and Kipkorir Rotich, who spearhead the 400m hurdles contingent. In the men’s 200m, Ronald Koech and Elkanah Sabila also made the cut. Mercy Chebet, Hellen Syombua Kalii, and Maureen Nanjala Wafula are included in the women’s 400m.
The men’s 400m selection features Kelvin Kiprotich Tonui, Dennis Masika Mulongo, and George Mutinda Mutuku. To round out the roster, athletes like Kelvin Kiprotich Tonui and Vanice Nyagisera Kerubo also booked their tickets with strong times, ensuring Kenya is well represented across all short-distance disciplines.
In the women’s 800m, Olympian Vivian Kiprotich Chebet is joined by Alice Nasban Ekiru and Pauline Muhonja Ndusu. On the men’s side, Kelvin Kimtai Loti leads the trio alongside Laban Kipkorir Chepkwony and Brian Musyoka Masai. In the 1500m, Mary Nyaruai Ekiru and Reynold Cheruiyot Kipkorir are the top seeds in their respective categories.
Faith Chebet and Vivian Chebet will join Mary Ekiru in the women’s 1500m, while Brian Komen and Dominic Barngetuny join the world 1500m bronze medallist in the men’s race.
Diana Chepkemoi and Peter Kipngeno Rono comfortably dipped under the qualifying marks in the 3000m steeplechase. Mercy Chepng’eno and Mercy Mageso have also been added to the women’s 3000m steeplechase field, alongside Shadrack Kibiwott Too in the men’s category.
The endurance roster is completed by a strong 5000m contingent featuring Maurine Jepkoech Chebor, Joyline Chepkemoi, Phenoh Siyoi, and Cynthia Chepkurui.
For the hammer throw, Roseline Nyanchama Rakamba will represent the country on the women’s side, while Dominic Ongidi Abunda is the sole male selection with a mark of 62.60.
The men’s javelin squad features Boniface Kyalo Kilonzo, Alexander Kiprotich, and veteran Julius Yego, who leads the group. The women’s javelin team includes Carolyne Anyang Odwory, while Edwin Too will compete in the decathlon.
Kevin Chesang, Silas Senchura, and Mathew Kipruto Kipkoech have been named in the men’s 10,000m, while the race walk team includes Samuel Kireri Gathimba, Stephen Ndangiri Kihu, Sylvia Jerono Kemboi, and Caren Naliaka Simiyu.
The high jumpers include Faith Jepkemboi Kipsang and Asbel Kiprop Kemboi; long jumpers are Zeddy Jesire Chongwo and Isaac Ndute Kimunu; and triple jumpers include Martha Monyenche Nyabuto, Faith Jepkemboi Kipsang, Winnie Chepngetich Bii, Amos Musili Mwendwa, Gilbert Pkemoi, and Kevin Kemboi Kiprono.
Finally, the throws roster is bolstered by Belinda Adhiambo Oburu and Sarah Atieno Okumu, who will represent Kenya in the women’s shot put.
